Arizona Daily Star Selects Mark Henschen as Publisher and President

TUCSON, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 13, 2016-- Mark Henschen, vice president of operations and circulation, has been promoted to president and publisher of the Arizona Daily Star.

The announcement was made today by Lee Enterprises, Incorporated (NYSE: LEE) and Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI). The Daily Star is owned by Lee, and its business operations, Tucson Newspapers Inc., are owned jointly by Lee and Gannett.

Henschen, 61, succeeds Chase Rankin, who left the Daily Star in 2015 to become vice president of advertising at the Arizona Republic in Phoenix. Henschen has served as interim president and publisher since June of 2015.

Humenik, who is a Lee group publisher with responsibilities for Madison, Wisconsin and Tucson and former president and publisher of the Arizona Daily Star, described Henschen as a strong strategist and inspirational leader.

Prior to joining the Daily Starin 2011, Henschen was the circulation director in Escondido, California with the North County Times. He also served as group circulation director for 16 properties in Howard Publications from 1996 to 2002. His career also includes circulation director with The Times of Northwest Indiana in Munster, Indiana and the Journal Gazette/Times Courier in Mattoon, Illinois.

Henschen was president of the Central States Circulation Manager’s Association and won the Young Circulation Executive of the Year Award in 1992. In 2003, he was recognized by the Newspaper Association of America as Circulator of the Year for newspapers 75,000 to 150,000.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and an MBA from Eastern Illinois University. In 2015, he was named to the Anderson-Hanna National Circulation Director Hall of Fame.
