Lee Enterprises appoints GM for Eastern Washington Nickels

SPOKANE, Wash., Apr 4, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Lee Enterprises (NYSE:LEE) has promoted Judy Olson from operations manager to general manager of its Eastern Washington Nickels classified publications.

The publications include the Nickel Nik (www.nickelnik.com), Nickel Nik Wheel Deals, Nickel Nik RV Wheel Deals, Driveline and Home Buyers, all based in Spokane; Nickel Nik Classifieds and Wheel Deals in Kennewick; Nickel Saver and Homes in Moses Lake; and NCW Nickel Ads and NCW Real Estate Guide in Wenatchee. They have total weekly distribution of 225,000, with additional monthly distribution of more than 60,000.

John VanStrydonck, Lee vice president for Pacific Northwest publishing, said Olson has handled much of the overall responsibility since becoming operations manager nearly a year ago. "More than anything else," he said, "this promotion recognizes the effective leadership and outstanding results she's already providing."

Olson began her career with Lee Enterprises in 1986 as controller and human resources manager at the Independent Record in Helena, Mont. In 1994 she was promoted to the Rapid City Journal in South Dakota with responsibilities for finance, human resources, systems and commercial sales. She became operations manager of the Eastern Washington Nickels in June 2001. Before joining Lee, she was executive director for the Montana Nurses' Association in Helena.

She has an accounting degree from Carroll College in Helena and a master's degree in business administration from the University of South Dakota.

She and her husband, Jim, have a son and a grandson in Denver, and a daughter in Billings, Mont.

Lee Enterprises also owns Nickel classified publications in the Seattle, Wash., and Portland, Ore., regions, as well as other shoppers, weekly newspapers and two daily newspapers in Oregon. In all, Lee Enterprises owns 38 daily newspapers and half interest in seven others. Lee also operates nearly 200 other publications, as well as associated online sites, in 18 states.
